Lake Shore wins championship
The Lake Shore wrestling team officially became a championship team Jan. 21 at Warren Lincoln. The Shorians topped Lincoln 48-32 to improve to 4-0 in the Macomb Area Conference Gold Division and clinch a share of the dual-meet title.

Foley ends season with new trophy

The Madison Heights Bishop Foley wrestling team gathered one last time this season Feb. 23 at home. The Ventures rolled up the practice mats, put them away for the year and took turns posing with their new Division 4 district championship trophy.

Roseville seniors finish at home

It was bittersweet night Feb. 17 at home for the Roseville High wrestling team. The Panthers ended their 2009-10 dual-meet season with a loss to Anchor Bay in a Division 1 regional semifinal and said goodbye to a number of their senior grapplers.

LCN, Dakota and CV grapplers win MAC titles
Eight local grapplers took home individual Macomb Area Conference meet Feb. 6. L’Anse Creuse North led the way with four champions at the MAC Blue meet, at Warren Cousino. Gary Cicotte won at 130 pounds; Tyler Horne took the title at 152; Eric Maniaci earned top honors at 112; and Lucas Banning was tops at 103.

There’s a hallway outside of the Ferndale gym with pictures of past All-State athletes. For a wrestler to appear on the wall, they need to finish in the top eight in the state tournament. Senior Ryan Watts has a spot on the wall. And that’s where senior Lorenzo Lynch wants to be.

Stevenson ends team season in regional final
The Utica Stevenson wresting team rounded out its dual-meet season in a Division 1 regional final against Romeo High Feb. 17 at Romeo. The Titans ended their season in a 61-15 loss to Romeo, which won a share of the Macomb Area Conference Red Division dual-meet title and took home the top spot at the MAC Red tournament.

The L’Anse Creuse wrestling team got to have a little fun Feb. 17 at Roseville High. Despite wrestling in a Division 1 regional championship, the Lancers didn’t feel any pressure, and coach Keith Weiand used that as a chance for his young grapplers to build for the future.
