Shooter on the lam
ST. CLAIR SHORES — Local police are searching for a white male in his 20s who shot at a 60-year-old man outside a convenience store March 11.
St. Clair Shores Police Detective Lt. Michael Walleman said the suspect entered the 7-Eleven on Jefferson and Statler at 1:55 a.m. The suspect walked to the beer cooler, where he chose a six-pack of Heineken, hid it under his hooded sweatshirt, and exited the store without attempting to pay.
“At the suspect was leaving, another customer was walking in,” Walleman said. “The cashier said to the other customer to grab him because he had just stolen something.”
The customer grabbed the suspect, and during the brief fracas that ensued, the suspect dropped his loot. He then produced what police believe was a 9 mm handgun and shot at the customer twice. The customer, a resident of St. Clair Shores, was not struck. The suspect then got on his bicycle and rode off northbound on Jefferson.
The suspect is described as around 5 feet 7 inches tall and approximately 125 pounds. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with printing in front, denim jeans, and white Nike sneakers with blue soles. Police are bringing in a sketch artist on March 12.
Anyone with information about the suspect should call the St. Clair Shores Police Department at (586) 445-5305.
